回复 'elfie' 的评论 : Thank you for the information. Any ingredient can be tasted good or bad depending on the way of cooking. Therefore, we should cook every meal with our heart. It will turn out to be delicious.
Alright, this vegetable is an important food source for the native Americans, then it went to Europe and spread around the world. It shouldn't be tasting bitterly if cooked well. Apparently the cooks at my school's dining hall didn't know how to cook it properly. It was bad and I never touched it again.

回复 'elfie' 的评论 : Thank you very much for telling me the English name. Now I know why you were in Nanjing. I grow up in Tianjin and spend 7 years in Beijing for my graduate and undergraduate education. I said I like Nanjing because I only visit the city 3 times. I will prefer to study in Beijing if I have to choose a place between Nanjing and Beijing.
I agree with you about children's choices of their own education. I am sure you will be a great mom to your three precious kids.
Thank you for replying my blog. Happy New Year!
arrowhead. I don't like Nanjing, unfortunately. It was a mistake my mother made. You know, I had no idea what NJU was when I was a high school senior in Beijing.
WTH, there are so many colleges I could have chosen. Well, she thought NJU would be a safe bet even though I could have gone to PKU. The Chinese moms, sigh to them. Now I am an Asian mom myself, lol, with three American kids. I hope I wouldn't make the same mistake my mother made, to premeditate a future for my children.

I hated this kind of vegetable from the dining hall of my college in China.
Nanjing University's dining facility made the worst food I've ever tasted. I only visited when there's a free meal for the holidays, like braised chicken, pork chops.
This vegetable you mentioned tastes woody, bitter and numbing my gums. At first I mistook it as a mushroom. But the texture, omg, no one should want a second bite.
It is horrible food!
