The Natural is a great film, yet Mr. Roger Ebert strongly believed otherwise. He was a great movie critic though, and he was right when he said that The Natural was not a baseball movie. No, it wasn't a baseball movie, but an American fairy tale instead.
Oftentimes in an American fairy tale, the hero must be either playing basketball or shooting a pistol, and his lovely woman, wreathed in ethereal light, always "sits in the stands and inspires him", happily ever after.
