Wise men say it is better to wait at least until May long weekend(Victoria day -the Monday on or before May 24 ) in Ontario to put your plants outside in the ground, except some frost-hardy plants.
Wise men also say only fools rush in.
While, the farmer in our family is one of those fools.
This year, he bought some seeds of Black Krim tomato online and and planted the seeds indoor. The plants grew pretty well. In the middle of May, Seeing the weather was very warm, he moved the tomato plants outside. Then the disaster happened. On May 17th and 18th, tempeture at night was down below 5 celsius, killing most of this tomatos plants. He had to replant some.
In Homedepot, he bought some new tomatos varities he never had before- Lemon boy tomato and Pineapple tomatos. After he told his story to his friend who is keen on gardening and only plant tomatos. His friend gave him a few plants which are The Kellogg’s Breakfast tomato and Cherokee Purple tomato.
So, a blessing in disguise, the disaster made this year became the year we have the most varities of tomatos.
