I read two articles about dining on Bucks County Herald, August 8, 2024. Barbara gave me the newspaper.
1) “Thoughts from an Epicure,” written by Lew Larason.
With tomatoes in season, now is the perfect time for a BLT.
The bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich or BLT is another summer meal we enjoy.
If you had some cooked bacon frozen, the only heat required for this sandwich is defrosting the bacon in a skillet set on low heat.
For those who don’t eat bacon, use cheese in place of the bacon.
When local tomatoes are ripe,I often have a tomato and lettuce sandwich. To me, this is another refreshing and tasty hot weather meal.
Enjoy- stay safe, cool and hydrated!
2) “Fill your plate with this summertime staple”, written by Susan Sprague Diamond.
It’s a good time for corn on the cob to accompany simple summertime suppers such as burgers or chicken on a grill.
We tend to think of corn as a starch, but it actually has a fair amount of nutrition. It consists of insoluble fiber, which puts it low on the glycemic scale, and contains many B vitamins and minerals including zinc, magnesium, copper, iron and manganese.
Quick and Easy Corn Fritters
1. In a large bowl, stir together the corn kernels, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and pepper.
2. Stir in the eggs and heavy cream until the batter is well-combined.
3. Coat the bottom of a large sauté pan with vegetable oil, and place it over medium-high heat, scoop 2-to 3- tablespoon mounds of the corn batter into the pan, spreading it lightly into a flat, circular shape. Then flip them until they’re golden brown and cooked through.
3) Eating is an important part of a person's life. One should eat healthy, nutritious food.
People from different countries have different eating habits. Chinese people eat more vegetables and less meat than Americans. In China, lunch is big, dinner is small.
I didn't eat meat when I was a kid. Until I entered the university, I ate in the public canteen, I didn’t pick about food anymore.
I like American dairy products such as yogurt and cheese.
