I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the “Five and Dime”
Played it ’til my fingers bled
It was the summer of ‘69
Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit and Jody got married
I shoulda known we’d never get far
Oh when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Ya - I’d always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life
Ain’t no use in complainin’
When you got a job to do
Spent my evenin’s down at the drive-in
And that’s when I met you
Standin’ on your mama’s porch
You told me that you’d wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life
Man we were killin’ time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothin’ can last forever - forever, no
And now the times are changin’
Look at everything that’s come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six-string
I think about ya wonder what went wrong
Standin’ on your mama’s porch
You told me it would last forever
Oh the way you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life
The lyrics for this song were written Jim Vallence. Jim explains each and every sentence in this song in his website which is a must read. This song however kinda got Bryan in the butt of the jokes as he was just 9 in 1969. :p There is also another hidden meaning to this song, 69″ does not refer to the year 1969, but to the 69 sexual position which is something that Bryan will never ever accept…..
Ofcourse, this song has perfect everything - Enchanting lyrics, music that lasts forever, and perfect tunes and beats which make you dance with joy. The video though may not be really interesting is something that can be watched a lot of times. I can’t really explain much of the song here so you’d better listen to it incase you haven’t already (the odds for that are 1:99). This song is extremely addicting and the very first time you hear it, the magic starts working, hear it 4 times you are hooked and after that you can’t take your ears away and your mouth starts singing the song as if by spontaneity!
This song is being hailed as one of the best pop songs ever, has been included in dozens of “Best Hits” series’s and also takes it’s place in the list of Top 10 songs of all times. This song has captured the hearts of generations and generations and it is without doubt my favorite song….Cheers and long live the legacy of ‘69!!
