when 248 nba players put the same person on both best/worst coach lists, you know how reliable this survey is. or i should say, when 248 people put the same person on both lists, you know how tough it is to evaluate a coach. coaches do not have that much stat to track as the players do; coaches cannot play for the players, and whatever game plans/play ideas have to be executed by the players; coaches have no or very little control beyond his squad in a sports club; etc. however, coaches tend to be: the first person to be blamed at if the team loses; and the first person to be fired if the team loses; but the last name to mention if the team wins. "let's change the coach" has been such an "easy" fix in so many professional sports, from soccer to basketball, from china to US. JVG does not have a lovely face that people can "fall in love with"; instead, he always looks upset. so when rockets do have an upset season, it suddenly makes much more sense to just replace the coach. this season's rockets, no matter you give me phil or larry, popvich or the white hot avery johnson, nobody can foresee so many key injuries. then when they never play with a full squad and can still keep a slight of hope of the playoffs today, i think JVG is still a good coach whom i can count on for next season.
