Get into Research at UBC Undergrad Science: Funding Resources

上周面了一个老板，基本上同意明年夏天进实验室，让我自己找funding，给了我几个缩写，什么HSFBCY，PHCRI之类的，看上去更像密码而不是某单位的名字。忽然想起今年年初参加过一次院里组织的Get into Research信息会，领了个材料，有不少funding resources，昨天整屋子竟无意中翻出来了。整理到网上，做个资料备份。

这个是加拿大国家量子及核物理实验室，五个成员大学，七个协作大学，总部在UBC温哥华校区


2 Faculty of Medicine Student Summer Research Project (SSRP)

UBC医学院设的，带有竞赛性质(competition)的夏季学生研究项目

The Summer Student Research Program (SSRP) is a competition open to undergraduate and medical students registered at UBC for a summer research project supervised by a member of the Faculty of Medicine (FOM), or in the case of projects funded by the CIHR/HSFC Strategic Training Program in Transfusion Science, a member of that program. Not all students who apply will be funded. A committee will review and rank only complete, eligible applications. Students with an average of less than 75% in their last 2 completed years are unlikely to be funded.

作为理学院的本科生要想和医学院的学生争，不知道难度会如何。而且不知道为什么，目前网页上写着：

这个是加拿大政府机构，申请人必须是公民或者移民 -_-

4 Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Program (MURP) and Conference (MURC)

这两个要大力推荐，门槛低，人数多，规模大，跨学科，我没有跟过，具体不了解，听参加过MURC的朋友的反馈，不错。提醒一下，07/08 MURP的截止日期是10月9号，MURC是明年2月，从网站给的信息来看，MURC是本科生的研究会议，到时候口头报告（oral presentation）和海报报告（poster presentation）还会有得奖者和提名，挺好玩的，准备明年去凑凑热闹。

这个也是要求加拿大公民或移民，又没我们什么事儿了。
NSERC是加拿大自然科学和工程研究协会，大财主，特有钱，加拿大最大的funding resource，很多PI拿的就是NSERC的资金

7 Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP)

这个总算是带我们玩儿了，不过加拿大公民依然有优先权。

这个没有竞赛性质，而是工作机会。

8 UBC Science Co-op

传说中的co-op，不少国际学生就是凭借在本科阶段超过一年的co-op全职工作经历，毕业的时候就够条件申请移民，强烈推荐。
12-16-month program in which the student works in a career-related position. Students apply to job postings through the Co-op office and obtain 6 academic credits for each 4 month Co-op term completed. The program also includes workshops on job-seeking (resumes, cover letters etc.).

这个以前也介绍过，官方的勤工俭学项目，必须是教育贷款申请人或者国际学生，工作机会不限于本专业，想什么图书馆整理书之类的就是从这儿找的，时薪都不错，16加起。

10 UBC Directed Studies
Students work with a faculty supervisor on a research project. Directed studies is considered a class and consists of 3 credits per term. Students are responsible for contacting the faculty member whose research area they are interested in.
这就不给钱了，所谓指导学习，Major是448，相对应的Honors是449，后者要求更严格，必须有论文。基本上每个系都会开设。

11 UBC Undergraduate Research Opportunities and Directory (ROAD)

UBC Science Undergraduate 研究机会汇总，名字挺大，我没试过，不评价。

资料上列的就是这些，大多数是奖学金或竞赛，后面是工作机会和448指导学习，感觉给国际本科生的funding机会几乎没有。

其实这是比较有规模有历史的项目，我们还可以直接找到感兴趣的中心或者实验室，直接找到老板，他肯雇你，没有奖学金或竞赛的性质，竞争会小，当然那就是纯粹的全职或半职的工作了。

相应的机构、中心和实验室可以参考我上一篇帖子，主要是针对生物医学类的。

这个也是竞赛性质的，由评审委员会审核。但是好像只给研究生以上的，本科生夏天这种几个月的小打小闹人家不理。这个需要信件询问落实。

这个也没戏，倒是有本科生奖学金，但不是BC&Yunkon的，是HSFO，安省的。还是要写信问。不过意外发现了志愿者的机会，不知道会是什么样的工作。

看来争取到额外的奖学金或者资金的可能性非常小，毕竟国际学生，又是本科，用上周五动物生理老师的话说，treated as dirt -_-

只好参加中心自己的Summer Student Research Project，拿老板发的工资了。

CIHR Canadian Institutes of Health Research 加拿大健康研究院
成立于2000年，是医学健康研究领域最大的研究及资金机构，下面有13个研究所，很多PI的实验室就是用这里的funding建起来的。
