Urgent, I-485 turn in more than 1/2 year, my husband lost job, h

Brothers and sisters:
Urgent help!
My husband just lost job and his I-485 has already been turn in more than half a year.
His job was electrical engineer in Texas. Could he find job in finance or only electrical engineering?
Can he work for company in California while his EAD was got during working for Texas?
