(题记:我这个刚进城不久的新人上周突然发现了美坛。读了众多网友的贴子及论坛帮助上提供的信息,获益匪浅。这里真是一个学习英语的好地方。我把自己的一个习作(A Bio Poem about a character in “A Pair of Tickets”)放了上来,得到了网友的鼓励。再接再厉,把练习写的故事梗概和作者简介也放上,欢迎指正。)

Jing-Mei grew up in a Chinese immigrant family. However, she denied her own Chinese blood lineage since she was a teenager. Her mother once said,“Once you are born Chinese, you cannot help but feel and think Chinese. Someday you will see, it is in your blood, waiting to be let go,” She did not believe or understand this until one day her family received a letter from China. The letter was addressed to her mother from her mother’s twin daughters who were from her mother’s first marriage.

This was the first time that Jing-Mei had heard that her sisters were alive. However, her mother passed away three months ago. Carrying her mother’s dream along with her and all thirty-six years of perplexed life about her own heritage, she and her father started a journey to China to visit the family’s blood relatives and meet her half-sisters.

In China, she experienced joys and sorrows, partings and reunions. Her father also told her the whole story about her mother. She realized how much she never knew about her mother. At Shanghai’s airport, Jing-Mei finally met her two sisters. She forgot all hesitations, fears, and expectations, ran toward her sisters and embraced them. Even though she saw no trace of her mother on her sisters’ faces, she saw part of her Chinese self. After all these years, it can finally be let go, just as what her mother had said.
