Of course Ivy schools are not for everyone! If your academic potential is in the lower quarter of the student pool; if you want a education emphasizing in technology rather than a liberal arts one; if you are sure now that you still want to go to medical school 4 year later; if you are rich enough and can not get financial aid and do not want to pay tuition, etc. But if you are really bright and you do not fear the competition in Ivy schools, you still can get into good medical school and actually have a better chance to get to a top medical school. California is a special place that has good public schools. Not everybody in other places is as lucky.
Whenever you give an example of Yale talent with low EQ, I can have 100 Yale ones with high EQ. Just like whenever I give an example of Berkley with low EQ, you can give me probably 50 Berkley graduates with high EQ. Individual example just does not give people the whole picture.

Rutgers也许不错,但不能证明名校是better or worse.
也许现在省了钱,但4年名校本科的生活是永远不会再有了。
名校的价值不在于钱本身,而在于一种体验和人际网络。

8年前,我邻居的孩子同时被Rutgers和Cornell录取,Rutgers给了全奖,Cornell则没有给任何奖学金。邻居夫妇俩人也是华人,都在纽约的金融业从事IT和财务工作,也只有这一个独子。孩子自己想去Cornell,并打算以后攻读法学院。但他们给孩子的选择是,如果孩子去Rutgers, 那么他们为孩子所存的上大学的钱将来就支付他法学院的费用;如果孩子去Cornell, 他们会帮他付学费, 但将来上法学院孩子就必须自己贷款负责。 孩子考虑了两个月,很勉强地决定了去Rutgers. 可四年下来, 用孩子的话来说, “Rutgers turned out to be much better than I thought". 而且, 他同时被Yale, Stanford & Chicago University 的law school 录取。
