我不相信璀灿的银星竟会如此陨落，
我猜想，冥王府只是把你的归期弄错；
或许，上苍只不过给人们开了个玩笑：
把愚人节荒诞的故事提前述说?...

I cannot fathom it; a shooting star has fallen dark!
in what seems like some cosmic calculation gone awry...
A sly preemptive stroke of wanton reckoning
That forfeits one more bright career to blind caprice.

哦！来自纽约布鲁克林的E.H医师！
你风趣幽默，热爱生命，酷爱生活:
你种下的“蓝菜花”刚刚萌出嫩绿的叶芽，
“梯透”正盼你回家把你的故事与它戏说。

So Ed - You quintessential Brooklynite...are gone...
Gone, too, your love of life and everything alive:
The eager broccoli you sprouted in such plenty for your staff,
And Tito, with his ears pricked-up to catch your footfall coming back.

我猜想，西雅图的旅途让你太过疲倦，
你无意中在睡梦里越过了阴阳的忘川。
或许，“奈何桥”上你走得太深太远，
看见了“三生石”想返回，可为时已晚？

Out there, did you perhaps slip off to sleep, exhausted from the trip?

忘忧水啊！你为何让未竟的遗愿留在梦魇？
我不让泪珠坠落,心底却涌起悲伤的波澜。。。

Is lading out her broth in darkling bowls. However so, you're gone.
Yet, I would have you know dear friend, that here, behind, I weep for you with all my heart.

注：1. 2012年3月5号，我的同事，好友，NIH儿科医师，爱德华汉都斯曼(Edward L. Hendelsman)医师在西雅图参加CROI会议时，
不幸去世，享年50岁。仅以此诗表达对他的沉痛哀悼。
2. 蓝菜花：一种蓝/绿色的蔬菜。
3. 梯透 (Tito)：爱德华 汉都斯曼医师的爱犬的名字。
