After being teased by cha-cha over my stinginess at buying running shoes, I went to runners high store in Long Beach on Friday to upgrade my running gears. I took my old Nike plus with me since I heard that the foot experts there decide on what type of shoes you need by examining the way your old shoes were worn out. But when I went in, the girl there, looking at the plastic bag in my hand, asked me, “are these shoes for donation?” "Errrr, no, I brought them because I heard you can decide what shoes fit me best by looking at them".
Geez, that was an awkward moment. I later realized that most people just came in wearing their old running shoes, unlike me, wearing flip-flops and having the old shoes in a bag.
My interaction was better with the other assistant, a 20 something guy who was obviously a runner. He asked me to walk barefoot under his close scrutiny and looked at my old maybe even “stinky” shoes, the soles and the inside. I asked him when was his next race. He told me, in November, New York Marathon, which would be his first full Marathon. He has run several halfs and will run the Long Beach half-Marathon as a preparation for the New York one. He thought my half-Marathon was the same race. I explained it was not; Mine was the Hercules, a much smaller group but the date fits me better.
They didn’t have Asics Nimbus of my size. I went with these ones of Asics Gel Landbreth 7:
Pretty cool, huh? I put the first 8 miles on them this morning. Totally worth every penny! I love them! Thanks you, 好学mm and Yugong for recommending Asics.
