The Easiest Way to Wear Alessandro Michele’s Gucci is Through Lipstick
Both rappers and fashion editors agree: Gucci is the hottest five letter word out there. For the former, that’s all thanks to the brilliant design charm of Alessandro Michele. The ring-festooned creative director has ushered whimsy into the mainstream and it looks like the over-adorned look is here to stay.
Following up their Fall/Winter 2016 show, Gucci’s latest launch is the first makeup range to align with Mr. Michele’s vision. And yes, it is just as fantastic as you assumed it would be.

Composed of two lipsticks, a nail polish and an eyeshadow compact, even the gilded G encrusted packaging of these pieces evoke the sumptuous vibe that Gucci currently has going on. Then there are the pigments, which were engineered by makeup mastermind, Pat McGrath. As Gucci Cosmetics’ artistic director, she was inspired by the flowers that wound their way through the Spring/Summer 2016 collection on frilly chiffon dresses and buttoned up suits. “It’s approachable yet captivating and fresh, with an intriguing edge, and translates onto every woman in a personal way, highlighting her individual beauty,” she explained of the collection.
My personal favorite product is the nail polish. A delightfully faded purple grey hue, called Dark Anemone, this is a nice neutral that pairs particularly well with a stack of gold rings. I also found that the pale peach lipstick, in Carnation, is an ideal layering tool. Rather than being worn alone, it is particularly effective in toning down the color of a lipstick that is a touch too intense, especially pink-based colors.
Even if you don’t have an exclusive Gucci purse, any bag containing a lipstick with Mr. Michele’s touch will do. At least for now.
