On Learning Classical Chinese Poetry
So you have flipped through a classical Chinese rhyme book. It is no big deal if you haven't. Admittedly, the rhyme book isn't quite reader-friendly. Don't let it put you off, though. Give yourself time. How about taking 30 minutes every day? Study one rhyme at a time and at your own pace. Expect no Great Leap Forward. Instead, expect a marathon run. A marathoner, which I am, is bound to “hit the wall" at some point. Just don't quit. Drag yourself across the finish line if you have to.
Albert Einstein considered compound interest as the most powerful force in the universe. In human terms, it is perseverance. Let the hare take a nap. We don't. I am giving you a little motivational speech here, of course. The truth is, we are passionate about classical Chinese poetry. Passion and perseverance are two sides of the same coin. Speaking of which, a coin has just multiplied itself into pearls clattering across a jade tray. Poetry pays, no pun intended.
