Continuous Wave Doppler: Apical Transducer Position

CW Beam:     In the Left Ventricular Inflow Tract and Left Atrium Normal Flow:     Primarily diastolic Abnormal Findings: Increased systolic flow velocity and spectral broadening due to mitral stenosis. High velocity retrograde systolic flow and spectral broadening due to mitral regurgitation.

CW Beam:    In the Left Ventricular Outflow Tract and Ascending Aorta Normal Flow:    Systolic Abnormal Findings: Increased systolic flow velocity and spectral broadening due to aortic or subaortic stenosis. High velocity retrograde diastolic flow and spectral broadening due to aortic insufficiency.
