Chocolate Poems

Once upon a time, there was a kingdom named “Chocolate Poems”. However, its previous name was Kingdom Contentment. Why the named was changed? Here is the story.

One day, when Mr. Wiseman, the Director of the King’s Council, was sitting down and leaned back in his large comfortable chair, Miss Bookends, the King’s head librarian, burst into the room.

She said to Mr. Wiseman: “Our beloved country, Contentment, has become too content! No one is reading books. Children at school only play games, crayon or eat candies. Adults sit around all day long, do nothing but eating candies.”

Miss Bookends shook her finger to Mr. Wiseman and continued, “Do you realize how serious it is? Within ten years, our kingdom will be illiterate. No body would know how to read and write, let alone poems. A country can not be independent if its people are not able to read or write.”

Mr. Wiseman said to Miss Bookends, “Calm down. I know how severe the problem is. I have the ability to remedy it and it is my responsibility.”

Miss Bookends looked at Mr. Wiseman hopefully. She trusted him because he was the smartest man in the kingdom.

First of all, Mr. Wiseman spent some time to observe the Children and adults. Then, after all the information he needed was gathered, Mr. Wiseman came up with an idea. With a smile went ear to ear, Mr. Wiseman wrote a proclamation which stated, “From day on, all books and poems must be made from chocolate, not paper. It can be made from sweet chocolate, bitter chocolate, milk chocolate, or even white chocolate for those who are allergic to chocolate. After a book or a poem is read, it must be eaten completely!”

The plan was a wonderful success because children and adults started to read. New factories were built to produce more chocolate books and poems. The King was a good example. He read and ate chocolate books all day long. He took his books wherever he went. He read more books than everybody else in the Kingdom. He did not care about becoming a chubby King as long as everyone in the kingdom loved to read.

The King and the Council decided to change the name of the kingdom from Contentment to Chocolate Poems in order to honor Mr. Wiseman for solving the reading problem. People in the kingdom were joyful since they were pretty sure they would be a free and independent country forevermore.
