A True Story from a Friend

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------My son's friend Gene is a lovely, quiet boy. He is six years old and his parents are from Korea.  One unique character of Gene is that he was born with a rare retina disease.  His vision will be getting worse and worse. He will be totally blind in a few years. Gene's parents tried their best to provide education and support for their son.  At the same time, they want to have another normal child.  Gene's mom expected a baby girl in August, 2006.  We met in July 2006.  We had a chance to for a long talk.  She told me that she is hoping a healthy girl. She will start a beauty salon when the kids are older. By the way, Gene's mom is a very beautiful, young woman, at early 30ths. 

Later, i heard that Gene's new born sister has the same disease and will be blind in the future.  Today, I met Gene's mom at school. She told me that she is in the latest stage of colon cancer and it already spread to liver.  She has to send her few months old daughter to Korea because she was under two major surgeries to remove majority of her liver and part of the colon. She said in such a flat tone.  I was in tears.  She loves Gene and her daughter. She could not take care her loved ones, two blind babies, because of she is struggling for her own life, at age 30ths.....

How can I not appreciate what I have, normal family, normal kids, normal health and even normal problems!  Count our blessings!
