Corrosion is becoming hot!

Corrosion has never been hot before although the direct cost due to corrosion in the United States is 3-4 % of its GDP. Probablly that's why Evans has complained that "Corrosion is dirty". Really, for common people, corrosion is something related to rust, which is really dirty and of course not sexy.

However, the situation is changing due to the changing of government policy. One is the Groundbreaking DoD Instruction signed recently (See CorrDefense Spring 2008 issue). The other one is the Corrosion Prevention Act 2007 debated in the Congress (See NACE website). The former one will create job opportunities within the military immediately; while the latter is expected to create 1 million (yes, 1 million) jobs when it is approved.
