Dear Chinese international students,

Ni Hao/Hello! We are two Chinese international graduate students from China.

One of us, Ke Fang, is now studying counseling psychology at the University

at Albany in Albany, NY. The other of us, Junhong Cao, completed her PhD in

counseling psychology at the same university in 2008.

We are sending you this e-mail to kindly invite you to participate in our on

-line study, which is about Chinese-speaking international students’

perceptions of counseling. We hope that the results of this survey will be

useful for counseling psychologists to learn more about how Chinese-speaking

international students view counseling so as to be able to improve the

services they provide to Chinese-speaking students in the U.S.

We are looking to sample as many Chinese-speaking international students as

possible, including undergraduate and graduate students from Mainland China,

Hong Kong, and Taiwan, who are studying in U.S. colleges or universities.

We realize that your time is valuable, and we would be very grateful if you

could spend approximately 15-20 minutes to go to our website (see below), to

read some information about counseling and then fill out two short surveys.

In order to have the perspectives of as many Chinese-speaking international

students as possible, we would also ask if you would kindly forward this e-

mail to any friends, acquaintances, classmates, colleagues, or family

members who are also Chinese-speaking international students in the U.S. We

are hoping to sample as many as 400 international students.

Your participation is voluntary, and you may choose to withdraw at any point

.

Also, no names are requested – your participation is completely anonymous.

If you are at least 18 years of age and willing to take part in the survey,

just copy and paste this URL into your internet browser to begin:

If you have any concerns or questions about this survey, feel free to

contact Ke Fang at kf963519@ albany.edu (205-936-0703) or our faculty

advisor, Dr. Myrna Friedlander at mfriedlander@uamail.albany.edu (518-442-

5049). If you have any questions concerning your rights as a research

participant that have not been answered by the investigator or if you wish

to report any concerns about the study, you may contact the University at

Albany Office of Regulatory Research Compliance at 518-442-9050 (toll free

800-365-9139) or orrc@uamail.albany.edu

In the event that you experience significant psychological distress during

or after the study, you can contact the counseling center at your university

or go to the website of the American Psychological Association (http://locator.apa.org/) for information on how to obtain appropriate services.

Thank you very much for your help!
