Stocks end mixed after surprise uptick in retail sales, weaker reading on consumer sentiment. Obama will tap Yellen as Fed vice chairman.

Market expert said there is a lack of conviction in the markets, everyone is kind of in wait-and-see mode.

Markets will face a number of important economic events next week. Tuesday, the Federal Reserve will meet on interest rates. The Commerce Department will also report on housing starts and building permits on Tuesday.
