Here is some statistics data about marriage and poverty (2008 USA data)
1. 71% of poor families with childred are not married;
2. 72% of all black kids (non-Hispanic) were born out of wedlock.
3. On average, non-married families are 5 times more likely to be poor.
4. Among high school dropout women, 67% were unmarried when gave birth their 1st child. By contrast, among women with at least a college degree, only 8% of births were out of wedlock.
