The Monday after the Xmas, Dad had to work so the kids and I stayed at home. I decided to enjoy my vacation and slept in as the kids already know how to fix their breakfast.
Evan usually snuggles with me after he goes to the bathroom in the morning. It was the same thing that morning. I heard his fast footsteps coming my way however for some reason he didn't see me on the bed. He rushed outside our room and called out: "Mom? Dad?"
Knowing Olivia had a very bad experience when she was little when she found out that she was the only one in the house (we were outside in the yard when she woke up from her nap), I didn't want Evan panic, so I answered: "Mom is here, honey!" He rushed back with a big smile and jumped onto the bed. Olivia came too so the three of us enjoyed our snuggling together.
I asked them: "So what would you do if you wake up and find out the Mom and Dad are not at home?"
"I will panic." Evan replied immediately which is not surprising to me.
"I will try to call you guys first." Olivia said, "If I can not get hold of you, I will take Evan to go to our neighbor's house to see if anyone is around. If our neighbors are not at home either, I will call 911."
"Why go to our neighbor's house?" I asked on purpose.
"Because we need to find an adult, we need to be together with an adult since you guys are not home." She answered.
While we will never leave our kids alone in the house until they are old enough, it is good to know that Olivia has a planJ.
