MPLS-TP is a set of MPLS protocols defined in IETF
MPLS-TP is a simplified version of MPLS for transport netowork
with some of the MPLS functions turned off. such
as PHP (Penultimate Hop Popping), Label-Switched Path (LSPs) merge,
and ECMP.
MPLS-TP does not require MPLS control plane capabilities and enables
the management plane to set up LSPs manually.
MPLS-TP OAM operate without any IP layer functonalities
Essential features
- MPLS forwarding plane with restrictions
- PWE3 Psedowire architecture
- Control plane: static or dynamic G-MPLS
- Enhanced OAM functionality
- Use Generic Associated Channel (G-ACh) to support fault, config, accouting,
performance, and security functions (FCAPS)
- Multicasting is under further study
