My Trip at Science Camp
A few days ago I went to science camp and stayed at Camp Koinonia. I went on hikes and learned a lot of interesting things.
Tuesday: On Tuesday morning, I had to wake up super early, only to find out that I had woken up for nothing because I would actually leave at 8:25am, not 8:15am. Finally, at 8:25am, I grabbed my luggage and went to school. When I got there, I set my luggage down and started walking into the line for the bus. I was in bus #1, the best bus. Going into the bus was fun. It turned out that we got buses with mini TVs and almost plush seats and tinted windows. The bus took a whole hour to get to science camp. By that time I had nearly fallen asleep again.
When the bus finally pulled into science camp, I looked outside. It was way bigger than I thought it would be, and also looked way nicer. Cherry blossoms lined the side of a field, and there were hills on both sides. One contained a steep road; the other was filled with redwood trees. I got off the bus and went into Habitat, where the dining hall is. After lunch, everyone (myself included) went to the amphitheater. There I learned that my cabin leader and naturalist was Cygnus (not actual name).
I walked up a hill to get to my cabin. My cabin number was 9, the exact same as the number of people in my cabin. Once I arrived there, I claimed the top bunk and spread out my sleeping bag.
Then, we all went on a small trail called the Wishing Tree Trail. It went deep into the forest, but not deep enough for the animals to come out. At the end of it was a burnt tree with lots of ash on it. We all smeared some on our faces. There is a myth that if you put ash on your face and touch the tree and make a wish, it will eventually come true.
After that was dinner. I ate a lot of pasta and breadsticks. When dinner ended and the cake was gone, we headed to the campfire. Everybody gathered in the amphitheater and sang songs around a fire. There were a lot of songs that I recognized, but there were also a few songs that I didn’t know. Plus, there were a few skits. One was a skit about raisins and how the spoon captures them. It was funny! After the campfire, I went back to my cabin and prepared to go to sleep. At lights out, everyone in the cabin was quiet, if not asleep. And that was my first day at science camp.
