可你一看,没法逃避这现实:华裔子弟太多了:“African-Americans, about 2 percent of the student body. Latinos make up about 10 percent, while Asians comprise 57 percent, and whites, also dwindling, at 14 percent”。
Among the 21,490 public school students who last year took the exam, the single gateway to eight high schools, 6 percent of blacks and 7 percent of Hispanics were offered admission, compared with 35 percent of Asians and 31 percent of white students.
Indeed, the city’s elite schools have long served disproportionately low numbers of black, Latin, and female students. Among incoming ninth graders in 2013 at the three largest specialized institutions—Stuyvesant, the Bronx High School of Science, and Brooklyn Technical School—57 percent were boys, 22 percent were white, and a whopping 64 percent were Asian. Just 4 percent and 5 percent were black or Latino, respectively. The numbers are especially alarming considering the city’s general eighth-grade demographics: 51 percent male, 17 percent Asian, 13 percent white, 28 percent black, and 40 percent Latino. In other words, while blacks and Latinos accounted for more than two-thirds of the city’s overall eighth-grade population, they made up less than one-tenth of those enrolled at the elite institutions.
At the city’s eight specialized high schools, 4% of offers went to black students, 6% to Hispanic kids, 27% to white kids and 54% to Asian kids.
Black enrollment at Latin School falls sharply
Nearly half of Latin School students are white, compared to 14 percent districtwide.Almost 30 percent of Latin School students are Asian , compared to 9 percent across the city.
Asian American students will make up 70 percent of the incoming freshman class at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, the highest percentage ever for the elite magnet school in Northern Virginia.
"In boys and girls alike who entered kindergarten with weight problems, we saw these differences in math performances emerge at first grade, and the poor performance persisted through fifth grade," says lead researcher Sara Gable, Ph.D., an associate professor of nutrition and exercise physiology at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
