美国遇到危险的时候，就会回归基督教伦理传统

现在小学生念的Pledge of Allegiance中的"one nation under god“，"under god"这个词组就是54年冷战时期加进去的，以彰显与“无神论”的苏联泾渭分明。"In God We Trust"的美国座右铭（motto)，也是1956年冷战时期确定的，这一句南北战争时期开始铸在硬币上，当时也是美国面临分裂的危局。

 

这个god，演进到20世纪，已经是基督教、犹太教和伊斯兰教共同的god，是最大程度包容的god。因此不包容的原教旨主义，也在其排斥之列，以保护真正的宗教自由。

美国的基督教伦理传统如何概括呢？这个问题太大，俺说不清楚。此处引用华盛顿的两个座右铭观其一斑吧：

 'Deeds, not Words;'

 'For God and my Country.'
