"Love Story": The novel "Love Story" by Erich Segal is a tragic romance about two college students, Oliver Barrett IV and Jennifer Cavalleri. Oliver is a wealthy, preppy Harvard student, while Jennifer is a working-class Radcliffe student. Despite their different backgrounds, they fall in love and get married. However, their relationship is challenged by the disapproval of Oliver's father, who cuts him off financially, and Jennifer's eventual illness and death from leukemia. The novel explores themes of love, class differences, family, and loss.

I truly didn’t know what to expect, life takes us on Journeys that we may not understand the depth and height of love. I was hoping they would find their way back together like a three strand cord but as fate would have it , the circumstances were unimaginable, nonetheless hope against hope wasn’t enough. Her last breath was with their love

The pain Silvia held in herself for too long, the untold feelings, the regrets, the anger, the frustration, the dissatisfaction, the forced way of things in her life led to incurable illness ... all beginning with her father's pressure that destroyed her inner essence and made her submissive and too obedient and blocked and unhappy... Poor Silvia, poor Mathew both of them suffered so much

Erich Segal repeats the same themes of "Love Story" (strong love, rich and poor, two cultures, terminal disease...) but he knows very well to tell a captivating story. The actors and the dialogues are superb.

Such a powerful love story, all roles were interesting. Except the Italian girl's father. It is sad to see parents destroy their own children. It is horrible to see them negotiate the lives of their children for profit, honor or whatever they believe is right. In reality they kill women of cancer, to be unhappy brings disease in human life. Trophy wife is horrifying and it is common in our planet.

Relatable because we have all had our one true first love . Secondly, I think he married who he really did love . His Best friend. Shows the timing sometimes is off . In the End we all end up where God intends for us .
Beautiful Romantic Movie

Actually, the scene where Matthew took off the ring and dropped it into the water was a physical statement of the marriage vow: "'holding thou only, 'til death do us part". When she died, he could let go of the last bit of her - the ring. He had been faithful to her in his heart, without even really admitting it to himself, all these 12 years.

The other thing I wanted to say is that we can love two different people: each love is valid and yet there is this terrible pain to have to choose between them - but Matthew made that vow to love, honor and cherish his best friend as his "one and only" -- and in doing so, he didn't betray his highest and best self when the temptation came along to abandon his commitment to love.

Some criticize Silva, but she, in the trap her father set for her, succumbed to bitterness and soul-destroying regret while living a lie. That would make one selfish. . .

Suggested rewrite of movie after Matthew recovers: before Silva marries husband, she tells him of her father's deal and says she will marry him, but "brace yourself Bud, we are not going to consummate the marriage, I am going to divorce you as soon as the ink is dry on the marriage certificate. I will keep my vow to my father to marry you and I will keep the vow of my heart to marry the man I truly love". Now THAT's an empowering ending!!!

The last words of her, "I am always being love you," and "The only love" are lingering in my ears.

I love this movie. I read the lovely comments and they ALL speak TRUTH from their ? . I do believe this movie is the American Doctor Zhivago and it's easier to take you in and stay with you because it's more real..
l the gorgeous blonde in Zhivago is played by Marisa Tomei who does it marvelously as the girl next door; although I just realized actually Marissa does not symbolize the passion as the blonde did in Zhivago but she actually is the down-home love, salt-of-the-earth, so the roles of the women in this American version of Zhivago are reversed from the Russian version of Zhivago. HE LOVED and always LOVED Marisa while the Italian doctor he FELL IN LOVE with and it's just as TRUE and just as DEEP ,but it was different. Undoubtedly her father would have disowned her and taken all the money to the grave with himself if she had married the American and so mortgage and kids and work would probably have worked on their BEING IN Love such that it may not have survived.
AND if it did survive, it would have become like what he had with Marisa which is a human love in the human world with human beings that live and die. BOTH loves are TRUE and he and his Italian lover are lucky that each got BOTH types of love and lived a full life. IT'S such a beautiful movie. Thank you

What was so good about the movie? To be a great movie, she had to marry Niko, then divorce and find the Dr who was so in love with her and waiting.
Instead she went for the money and Daddy.
Being doctors they would have had a good life. She could have returned to him.
Thank God the friend divorced and followed him. The friend was his true love she taught him he could love again.
He remained single for a long time and Karma got her and thank God she did not persuade him at the hotel, she was no longer his one love.
He loved his wife. End.
