I read two articles about lawsuit on Bucks County Herald, August 22, 2024. Barbara gave me the newspaper.

1)Targeted oil producers want Bucks lawsuit dismissed

written by Freda R. Savana

Several of the world’s major oil and gas companies are pushing back against Bucks County’s lawsuit claiming corporations knowingly deceived the public about their products and their impact on the climate.

“Addressing climate change requires a coordinated international policy response, not meritless local litigation over lawful and essential energy production,” said Theodore. J. , an attorney for Chevron, in a statement.

Bucks County said it cannot comment on ongoing litigation.

County Commissioner Chairwoman Diane Ellis-Marseglia called the lawsuit a “momentous and important step,”when the suit was announced.

Previously, the America Petroleum Institute called the allegations “ meritless and waste of taxpayers’ money.”

During the March press conference, Amy Fitzpatrick, the county’s solicitor, said “This suit is our tool to recoup costs and fund public works projects like bolstering or replacing bridges, retrofitting county-owned buildings and commencing storm water management projects, all of which will put us in the best position” to manage future severe weather- related events.

2) Parents in West Rockhill neglect case get 8-16 years.

Shane Robertson, 48, and Crystal Robertson, 38, appeared Tuesday before Common Pleas Judge Charissa J. Litter, accused of forcing their kids, age 4 to 16, to live in filthy conditions in the rundown trailer.

The pair will undergo mental health evaluations and treatment for drug and alcohol abuse.

Pennridge Regional Police reportedly discovered the children —six girls and one boy— living in a trailer at the Green Top Mobile Home Park in April 2023, and said all but one was found to be clinically malnourished. Many of them were sick and two of them tested positive f COVID. Some of the children had poor eyesight, one had maggots in her hair, and all had poor dental hygiene. Two children had to have oral surgery that required five of their teeth being extracted. The boy reportedly had a dangerous abscess in his mouth and 13 visible cavities.None had any formal education. Some didn’t know when they were born. All exhibited social anxiety. A bike lock that kept the children from accessing food in the refrigerator, was reportedly found.

The children remain in the custody of Bucks County Children and Youth Social Services.Since being removed from the home, the children have shown signs of flourishing, according to prosecutor Brittany M. Kern. They are healthier, have made friends and have been going to school, she added.

3) I think:

Oil and gas are a necessary source of power. But its excrement should meet certain conditions, and if the toxic substances exceed the regulations, they will be punished. If it does not exceed, it should not be punished.

Parents and their children should love each other. Some parents may abuse their children because they themselves have mental and psychological diseases. Child abuse is punishable by law!

Publicizing some legal cases in newspapers can help the general public understand legal knowledge.
