Shopper's itch

Technically I didn't fib yesterday when I told EP that I had to go out shopping because I had absolutely nothing to wear. You see what I told him is simply "a version of the truth". The whole truth is of course that I had absolutely nothing NEW to wear. Well, you can't honestly expect me to wear the same things over and over and over again, can you?

I know I probably will have a heart attack when I get the credit card bill. (Well, I just bought 10 CDs too - but they are on sale! I haven't bought any CD for an insanely long time!) I know all this materialism is the source of all evils. (That's why I rarely watch regular cable - I have to get away from all those commercials.) I know I should strive for spiritual pureness (or whatever that sounds really environmental friendly and highbrow).

But when I get my shopper's itch, there is only one thing I can do - take out my credit cards and swipe them (or punch in the 16 digit number, which I have memorized, to the various Amazon-ish websites). And the more useless the stuff I buy the happier I get. Self-control, sensible behavior suddenly become alien concepts.

Do you think I get brainwashed by some malicious force in the universe?
