Favorite movie genres

Living in the now. And the best is yet to come.

This notion dawned on me when I was taking my shower this morning. And you never know what promoted this realization.

So I was in the bathroom prepping for the shower. And I was listening on my shower radio to the NPR weekend quiz show Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. This week they had Tom Hanks, in association with Da Vinci Code of course, as a guest. He turned out to be marginally funny and semi-grounded, which is a bit of surprise. I guess I somehow expected him to be this deadly serious fake. Anyhow, I then started to wonder why I never fancied him and the answer is of course that he's not exactly handsome.

So at this time, I got into the shower and I started to think - well, Keanu Reeves is really really handsome how come I never fancied him either (maybe except a couple of seconds when he appeared killingly macho in Matrix). And that is because he always comes through as this big big bore, very empty, no sense of humor whatsoever in his interviews. I guess you can argue that he's a very private sort of person in interviews, but you don't need to go into your personal details to sound funny, right? Anyway, talking about a waste of a beautiful shell!

And next my mind migrated to this movie I saw a couple of weeks ago called Thank You For Smoking. A brilliant, intelligent hilarious satire! It's about this tobacco industry lobbyist who does glib arguments in favor of smoking. One of the best movies I saw this year hands-down. And at this point, it hits me what my favorite movie genres are! And here they are:

- Smart satire (e.g. Thank you for smoking)

- Quirky little romance (e.g. A room with a view; Before Sunrise/Sunset)

The realization made me quite happy because I solved a little bit more of this puzzle called myself.
