NDTV Correspondent Tuesday, May 8, 2007 (Kolhapur) A court in Maharashtra\'s Kolhapur district has sent two Karnataka priests to police custody for trying to convert Hindus to Christianity.
But the priests have been charged under Section 420, which relates to cheating. The priests were accused of trying to convert at least six people.
The priests were beaten up and paraded up to the police station by a mob on Monday night.
State Home Minister RR Patil has condemned the incident and said the guilty would not be spared.
\'\'I condemn this incident. If people have a problem they should go to the police. People cannot take law into their own hands. We have arrested two people so far,\'\' Patil said.
For the minorities in Kholapur, things will be tough ahead.
Though the Home Minster has promised action, this attack on priests has come as a major embarrassment for the Congress led government in Maharashtra.
