Do you really support democracy?

Do you support democracy? This looks like an easy question, at least for those who claim as D-fighters. But do you know what is the essence of democracy? Do you really support it if the process produces "undesirable", "incorrect" results in your opinion?

Recent events surrounding the Tibet riots and the Olympics Torch Relay have touched and divided the Chinese communities throughout the world. What is the most interesting is the reactions from some of those "D-fighters". They came out and called pro-China demonstration "strange", its participants "brainwashed", "mob", "goons and thugs" (yes they use the same CNN terminology). They are so scared of the spontaneous reaction from the masses. In their opinion, China is not ready for democracy until its people brainwashed into a "correct" way of thinking.

While I am in no way claiming any of those demonstrations as a result of a democratic process, the reaction from those D-fighter elites reveals a fundamental lack of understanding of the essence of democracy. The D-fighters typically confuse practicing democracy with some liberal utopia ideas that have not been implemented anywhere in the world. They did not understand that the only core principal of democracy is the rule of majority, period. Any additional rights such as right of self-determination, right to an abortion, gay marriage, or even freedom of speech, need to be approved by a majority.

Political elitism is the most dangerous enemy of any democracy. Elites think they can make better decisions for the masses, despite that history has proven the contrary. Unfortunately both the communists and the D-fighters think the same in this regard. And that is the reason why a political system that was implemented in ancient Roma 2000 years ago is still far far away from China.
