I just went to creaders.com to read some comments. Now I think I have the clue for the whole story. Hai Da carefully avoids leaking any clue in his replies. If I am not wrong, that explains all the weird adjective words in his novel.

I think Jing might ask Jim to give Zheng a Master degree so he could find a job and leave so it will be less awkward for her to go back to work there again.

It may be a good idea to add a transition episode before she made her decision to go back, such as trying or thinking of something else but failed. From the short paragraph I can only see her abrupt emotional decision to show her "nerve of steel" and "invincibility". Earning 30-40K as a lab assistant is not a way of self-fulfillment by any standard since she can make much more after going to college, and as I said before, that's not hard since >50% of F2s doing the same and got at least a M.S. degree (shame on my wife :-) but she tried her best)
I doubt that Jim will let Jing back to his own lab in real life, working alongside with his student and her ex-husband. Although it is not rare to find husband-wife teams on many medical school campus, or PI marry his (or her, to much less extend) former postdoc, graduate student or technician, it is usually not under the circumstance as described in the novel. Jim married the ex-wife of his own student (current, not former), and had a relationship before their divorce. If Wei makes a big fuss about it, the school is obligated to investigate, at least. Whether Jim will be found any wrong-doing is a different matter, but faculty do talk, or gossip, even if Jim is the chair. In Schools such as Harvard or Yale (I suspect the school described in this novel is Yale), not many tenured faculty give a damn about the dept chair. Jing may not know, but Jim should know better of the consequence. It is very easy for Jim to create a position, especially a tech position, in almost any lab, regardless of whether there is an opening.
I have seen or met many Chinese students, including my own classmates just like Liu Juan or Zheng Wei. Before Jing changed her heart, I admire her being ambitious, considerate and hard-working, considering her background. I am disappointed at the turn of events, but I guess it is dramatic for the novel. I do not think Jing is a vicious person, but selfish, absolutely. Who isn’t? Wei can only blame himself for marrying the wrong person.

It looks like that young always consider her own needs in first place even this need is not critical to her again.
If she want to prove her job capabilities, she can try to look for jobs in other schools or companies.

My wife is far from as smart as Yang. She's afraid of doing English Presentation and can not get a master's degree. So she first took some courses in community college and then transfered for another B.S. degree,(she has a B.S. home). So what, Yang has tons of choices. WHY doing so! Most of the readers here should have some love experiences and know what a failed love means. I really doubt letting Yang come back is a good idea. As somebody said, this is only a fiction, not a documentary. Why not let Yang do something else and succeed, every one will still admire Yang that way.

Agree no more!!!#$%%%^ If you are an author, you want your readers to be NOT involved. Brilliant! Admire.

Unfortunately, some readers are too involved. That also shows the brilliance of the author.

Even though Young is a common girl as you mentioned before many times, According to this story Young definitively is a selfish person .
Her marriage with Jim is for love, how about with zheng's? Maybe at different circumstance, she need different love marriage?

After reading many of your posts, I really feel it's shame on you. Sorry, it only shows how low of a person you are, although you think you are so much more ethical than Xiaojing or Jim.
Even if Xiaojing had an affair before the divorce. She doesn't deserve to be killed. I really don't undertand why you are so bitter to another human being, no matter it is a real person or an imaginary figure.
Show some humanity.

I believe Yang may later say something to Zheng and that may be a reason Zheng stand up. But If I were Yang, I SHOULD NOT GO BACK TO THE SAME LAB of Zheng, because the result is unpredictable and can only harm Zheng in most reasonable outcome. But She go back to lab to prove her own capability, of which I have no doubt. But I doult her personality, morality. From the first chapter till now, I do not see any words telling me Yang is a considerate person. NO MATTER WHAT THE OUTCOME IS, THE MOTIVATION OF ALL HER BEHAVIORS IS SELF SATISFACTORY.
alladin007 发表评论于
Yang is not "Hou4 Dao4" in doing this. She hurts Zheng so much and still wants to came back to the Lab to give Zheng a hard time. Even doing so will unexpectedly stimulate Zheng to stand up, but everyone knows this would most likely do no good to Zheng. SHE ALWAYS ONLY considers her OWN NEEDS REGARDLESS OF OTHERS'. The the author tries his best to beautify Yang to balance something, but I guess no success in most readers' mind. If Yang did not marry Zheng's advisor and makes her own big time with her own success, or even meet her new husband after her divorce, this would be a good story. Yang's ambition and her consistent effort toward realizing that is good, but unfortunately, not in the way we all admire. Yang is not doing anything wrong, but she should not be the leading role in a novel from which the author wants to convey some positive merit. If Yang's only a supporting role, this would be reasonable, since as we all aggree Yang is a common girl, no angle, no devel.
