　　文革末期，肉联厂青年职工康伟业（濮存昕 饰）经人介绍，认识了武汉军区某高干女儿段莉娜（吕丽萍 饰）。经过一段时间的交往，两人发生了一次毫无预兆的性关系。在那个保守的年代，摆在康伟业面前的路似乎只有一条。被逼无奈之下，他与段莉娜结婚，虽然凭借岳父的力量当上了物资局的科长，但是并没有什么感情基础的婚姻终究令康伟业心灰意冷。
　　改革开放的大潮袭来，不满足机关单调乏味生活的康投身商海，凭借自身才干，他很快打出一片天空。在这一过程中，他结识了白领丽人林珠（许晴 饰）。郎才女貌，康伟业和林珠毫无悬念地坠入爱河。但，这是否便是他爱情的最终归宿呢？
