I have been living abroad for 12 years and a lot has changed in the US during that time. In this video, I will talk about some of the biggest changes I have noticed and how my views have changed on these issues. Have you noticed these changes? What other things do have you noticed changing in the US? Leave a comment and let me know.
解说词
I've been living abroad for 12 years now and I thought it'd be interesting to talk about how my opinions and how My Views have changed on the US after living abroad for so long; I saw a tick tock asking other Americans that live abroad the same question how their views have changed since they've moved abroad and how they view the US now and I thought it'd be interesting to add this into my 12 years abroad Series; so let's Jump Right In with number 12 which is
freedom we are jumping right into it
0:26
with freedom if you know anything about
0:28
the us then you know what I'm talking
0:29
about the US Prides itself on its
0:32
freedoms I don't know how many times I
0:34
was told growing up that America is the
0:36
land of the free and the home of the
0:38
brave and I should be willing to die for
0:40
that freedom as you can imagine I just
0:42
kind of believed it because I didn't
0:44
know better and why would they lie about
0:45
that well I can tell you my opinion has
0:48
definitely changed since traveling and
0:50
living abroad it turns out the US isn't
0:52
even in the top 10 freest countries
0:54
according to the human Freedom index it
0:56
is in the top 20 ranked at 15 but the
0:59
way the media and government talk about
1:01
freedom in the U.S makes it sound like
1:03
all other countries are imprisoning
1:05
their people and forcing them to work
1:07
which is kind of ironic because the US
1:09
actually ranks number one in
1:10
incarcerated people according to World
1:12
prison brief the United States leads the
1:14
world in total number of people
1:16
incarcerated with more than 2 million
1:18
prisoners Nationwide My Views have
1:21
definitely changed on the us being the
1:22
freest country in the world the US does
1:25
have a lot of freedoms and has a strong
1:27
judicial system but so do other
1:29
countries around the world and the US is
1:31
not ranked number one moving on to
1:33
number 11 on our list is something that
1:35
many people argue about and often goes
1:38
hand in hand with the idea of freedom
1:39
and that is gun ownership in the U.S it
1:43
is very interesting to talk with people
1:44
who are not from the US and who haven't
1:46
grown up with gun ownership being a
1:48
common and real thing growing up in the
1:51
US it was normal to own guns and many
1:53
people I knew had guns I remember my
1:55
brother having a shotgun in his house
1:57
and I didn't think it was that strange
1:58
or weird but this is isn't normal
2:00
globally and actually only three
2:02
countries have constitutional rights to
2:04
own a gun While most countries allow gun
2:06
ownership they impose strict laws
2:08
regulating which types of guns you can
2:09
own and how they are stored according to
2:12
Insider Americans own nearly half of all
2:15
the civilian-owned guns in the world and
2:17
on a per capita basis the U.S has far
2:20
more guns than any other Nation with so
2:23
many guns come mass shootings which is a
2:25
uniquely U.S thing these attacks rarely
2:27
occur in other countries and the
2:29
frequency and destruction caused by
2:31
these attacks is heartbreaking My Views
2:34
have changed a lot on gun ownership from
2:36
this is normal to what is wrong with the
2:39
US
2:40
speaking of what is wrong with the us
2:41
next on our list at number 10 which ties
2:44
back into the last two points is
2:46
national pride Americans are extremely
2:49
patriotic and they believe that the US
2:51
is the best country in the world and you
2:53
better not disagree with them because
2:54
they might shoot you jokes aside they
2:57
are extremely patriotic because they've
2:58
been lied to their whole lives the US is
3:01
a good country but it is not the best
3:02
country or worth chanting USA USA USA
3:06
everywhere you go
3:08
most Americans don't realize how bad
3:10
they're getting screwed by the
3:11
corporations in the government and they
3:13
truly believe that the US is number one
3:16
in the world it really depends on what
3:18
you are ranking but the US is usually in
3:20
the middle or lower half of a top 20
3:22
list from freedoms to Quality of Life to
3:25
education the US is ranked all over the
3:27
place and rarely is number one except
3:30
for prisoners guns military spending GDP
3:33
and a few other things that aren't very
3:34
flattering it isn't until you move
3:36
abroad and remove yourself from the
3:38
media enforced lies that you start to
3:40
realize the rest of the world isn't that
3:42
bad and some countries are even better
3:44
than the US in one way many countries
3:47
are better than the US is education
3:49
number nine on our list is education
3:52
according to results from the program
3:54
for international student assessment the
3:56
U.S ranks 39th in math 23rd in reading
4:00
and 25th in science out of 73 surveyed
4:03
countries this is low for a country that
4:06
claims to be number one
4:07
after living abroad for some time it is
4:09
clear that the US does not value public
4:11
education and universities are run like
4:14
businesses the cost of higher education
4:16
is appalling compared to the rest of the
4:18
world and don't get me started on public
4:20
schools there are videos of teachers
4:22
asking for school supplies and Mr Beast
4:25
just did a video about helping students
4:27
and teachers because the US government
4:28
doesn't provide enough resources the US
4:31
government doesn't seem to care about
4:32
education and this means the general
4:35
public also doesn't seem to care about
4:36
education just search Americans are
4:39
idiots and you will see how bad it is
4:41
not to mention the dangers around
4:43
teaching after living abroad for a long
4:45
time it has become clear that education
4:47
is not a high priority in the U.S which
4:50
is a shame because it is the best way
4:52
for people to improve their lives and
4:53
economic situation
4:55
speaking of improving situations we are
4:57
about to hit number eight on this list
4:59
but before I reveal that one be sure to
5:01
hit the like button because it really
5:03
helps improve the situation of this
5:04
video okay let's jump back in with
5:07
number eight which is Healthcare I
5:10
remember growing up that I never went to
5:11
the doctor and I never understood why it
5:14
was just my family didn't go to the
5:16
doctor unless somebody was dying I mean
5:18
literally the one time I spent the night
5:20
in the hospital I was actually dying and
5:23
if I didn't have a surgery I would have
5:25
died and I never really thought anything
5:27
of it it's just we didn't go to the
5:29
doctor
5:30
well it turns out we didn't go because
5:32
it costs a fortune just for a simple
5:34
checkup the US has state-of-the-art
5:36
hospitals and medicine but unless you
5:38
are rich or have good insurance good
5:40
luck accessing it the U.S spends more of
5:43
its GDP on health care than any other
5:45
high-income countries yet ranks last in
5:48
access to care administrative efficiency
5:50
equality and Health Care outcomes
5:53
according to the non-profit Commonwealth
5:55
fund I just typed into Google what
5:57
countries have Universal Health Care and
6:00
I realized it would be faster to look up
6:01
which countries don't have Universal
6:03
Health Care some of the countries that
6:05
don't have Universal Health Care include
6:07
Pakistan Yemen Syria and of course the
6:11
United States
6:12
basically the entire world is covered in
6:14
some form by a government-backed program
6:16
but the U.S is the only High income
6:19
country that doesn't have adequate and
6:21
affordable coverage affordable being the
6:23
key word in that last sentence there are
6:25
people that pay thousands of dollars on
6:27
medication and treatment each month in
6:29
the U.S but if they lived in almost any
6:31
other country it would be free or
6:33
affordable My Views have changed a lot
6:35
on Health Care in the United States
6:37
since leaving and it's one of those
6:39
situations that could be solved if
6:41
people were willing to and if the
6:43
corporations didn't make so much profit
6:45
off of keeping the system the way it is
6:47
and it's such a shame because people are
6:50
you know suffering because of this
6:52
system and one of the ways it is
6:54
profitable is by treating obesity
6:56
related health issues which brings us to
6:58
number seven on our list food
7:01
in The Tick Tock video I was watching
7:02
about Americans and how their views had
7:04
changed after living abroad many of them
7:07
were complaining about gaining weight or
7:08
getting sick when they moved back to the
7:10
United States because of the food
7:13
the food industry in the U.S is
7:14
basically producing poison the FDA
7:17
allows food and packaging companies to
7:19
use harmful chemicals when handling and
7:21
processing food these chemicals end up
7:23
in the food which can cause cancers and
7:26
other health problems again growing up
7:28
in the U.S eating Pop-Tarts for
7:29
breakfast seemed like a normal thing to
7:31
do Little Debbie snacks and mac and
7:33
cheese with hot dogs was a balanced diet
7:35
all washed down with Coca-Cola it wasn't
7:38
until I moved that I realized that some
7:40
of the Obesity problems in the US are
7:42
actually food problems it is easy to
7:45
blame and say it is an individual's
7:47
problem which is part of the problem but
7:49
also a lot of the issues are related to
7:51
the food industry and access to healthy
7:53
foods but changing the laws are much
7:56
harder and not as profitable as changing
7:58
people's attitude towards obesity now if
8:01
somebody says he she they are fat or
8:04
unhealthy they will get canceled for
8:07
body shaming so obviously My Views have
8:10
changed a lot in relationship to health
8:12
care and and food in the United States
8:15
which brings us nicely to our next point
8:17
on the list woke culture a quote that
8:20
always makes me laugh is if you're not a
8:22
liberal when you're 25 you have no heart
8:24
if you're not a conservative by the time
8:26
you're 35 you have no brain the cultural
8:30
war that is Raging right now in the U.S
8:32
is insane like literally insane and it's
8:36
all a distraction to keep people from
8:37
enacting any real change in the
8:39
government or Society if all sides are
8:42
fighting with each other and themselves
8:44
the people in power and the corporations
8:46
can pass legislation that hurts both
8:48
sides and makes them more profit the
8:51
last thing they want is for all sides to
8:53
unite under their common struggle and
8:55
oust the people currently in power the
8:57
craziest thing is that when you are
8:58
removed from it and you're living abroad
9:00
you can just see how crazy and insane it
9:03
is and how damaging it is to society
9:05
while Americans are fighting about what
9:08
a woman is or if the celebrity has used
9:10
the correct pronoun the rest of the
9:12
world knows what a woman is and isn't
9:14
wasting time on things that don't make
9:16
their country or economy stronger while
9:18
American students are in their gen
9:19
understudy classes wondering if they are
9:22
a man woman or other Chinese and Indian
9:25
students are in their maths and physics
9:27
classes gaining real knowledge that
9:29
might lead to the next breakthrough in
9:31
science or technology learning about
9:33
someone's gender isn't a real skill and
9:36
won't create a breakthrough that could
9:37
revolutionize any industry it isn't even
9:40
medical science at best we might learn
9:42
about groupthink when people study this
9:44
time period in the future but in its
9:46
current form woke culture in the
9:48
backlash to it is destroying Society
9:50
societies only exist when people are
9:53
willing to share the same goal and work
9:55
towards that goal together currently
9:57
both sides are unwilling to find common
9:59
ground and they're literally tearing
10:01
each other apart they're tearing this
10:03
Society apart and the people in power
10:06
absolutely love it My Views have changed
10:09
a lot on this after traveling to many
10:10
countries because these types of debates
10:12
aren't even considered in most places
10:14
most people around the world are too
10:16
concerned about feeding their families
10:18
and improving their lives to even think
10:20
about pronouns but enough about all that
10:22
we've made it to number five on the list
10:24
and if you're still here then you
10:25
probably agree with me on many of these
10:28
points you probably also know that
10:30
YouTube will not push this video to
10:31
anyone so be sure to like and share it
10:33
with your friends to help others
10:35
understand how the US looks from abroad
10:37
next up on this list is another thing
10:39
that is destroying the United States
10:41
from the inside and it's this
10:44
consumerism Flex culture celebrity
10:48
worship I'm sure there's a term for this
10:50
but I don't actually know what it is
10:51
it's basically the worship or the Love
10:54
of Money a Harris poll of three thousand
10:57
children between the age of 8 to 12
10:59
revealed that YouTuber was the first
11:01
choice of 29 of them don't get me wrong
11:04
I would love to make a full-time income
11:07
on YouTube but I don't think that young
11:09
people should be inspiring to be social
11:11
media Stars if the US culture continues
11:14
to inspire children to become
11:15
celebrities and only fan Stars the us
11:18
will lose its competitive advantage in
11:20
science and technology when I was
11:22
growing up children wanted to be doctors
11:24
astronauts teachers and scientists sure
11:27
there were some kids that wanted to be
11:28
WWE stars or actors but they were
11:31
usually outliers and not the norm
11:33
nowadays based on the polls children
11:36
want to be YouTube stars and they look
11:38
up to Mr Beast I get the appeal of money
11:41
and fame but it is a slippery slope if
11:43
children look up to YouTube YouTubers
11:45
celebrities and hustle culture promoters
11:46
and not doctors or scientists I feel the
11:49
future is doomed the internet has
11:51
created a lot of opportunities for new
11:53
work and ways of making money but very
11:55
few content creators are curing cancer
11:57
or creating the next tech Revolution if
12:00
all the kids want to be YouTubers who is
12:02
going to build the future speaking of
12:04
building the future we all have to work
12:06
which brings us to our next point the
12:08
U.S mistreats employees more than 120
12:12
countries around the world provide paid
12:14
maternity leave and health benefits by
12:17
law including most industrialized
12:19
nations except Australia New Zealand and
12:23
the United States according to reports
12:25
from the international labor office just
12:28
think about that for a second mothers
12:30
who have just given birth are not given
12:32
paid maternity leave by U.S law because
12:35
there are no laws on the books it is up
12:37
to employers to decide how much time and
12:39
money new mothers are given this is
12:42
supposed to be a happy moment in a
12:43
couple's life but most parents miss out
12:45
on important bonding because they have
12:47
to go back to work you'll be lucky to
12:49
get three or four weeks off and even
12:51
luckier if it's paid if you're
12:53
commenting about the Family and Medical
12:55
Leave Act of 1993 right now I get it
12:58
there are some protections but that
13:00
really only covers unpaid leave with the
13:03
average family in debt and less than 6
13:05
000 in their bank accounts it is hard to
13:06
take 12 weeks unpaid leave maternity
13:09
leave is just one example of how U.S
13:12
employees are getting hurt another good
13:14
example is employment at will contracts
13:17
which only benefit the employer
13:19
because many workplaces don't offer
13:22
full-time contracts with salaries and
13:24
benefits employees are constantly
13:26
anxious about their jobs there is little
13:28
job security with employment at will
13:30
contracts which pressures workers to
13:32
work harder and longer because they are
13:34
worried about losing their job these
13:36
types of contracts allow managers to
13:38
create schedules that keep employees
13:39
from reaching full-time hours which
13:42
means companies don't have to pay for
13:43
insurance or other benefits that
13:45
full-time employees should receive
13:47
employers have even gone farther by
13:49
creating gig work and refusing to
13:50
classify workers as employees reducing
13:54
their tax insurance and benefit
13:55
obligations they create campaigns
13:58
claiming that it is good for employees
13:59
and that it provides more flexibility
14:01
but in reality it only burdens workers
14:04
people don't want to feel insecure about
14:06
their livelihoods reports and studies
14:08
show that people are more productive and
14:10
happier when they feel secure in their
14:12
workplace employment isn't always fair
14:14
and balanced in the United States and
14:16
two things really jump out to me when
14:18
talking about this first Americans have
14:21
been trained to hate unions it is
14:23
surprising just how much effort has gone
14:25
into breaking or stopping unions this is
14:28
a video in itself but history has shown
14:30
that workers have benefited the most
14:32
when strong labor unions Force business
14:35
owners to increase wages and provide
14:37
more benefits but because this history
14:39
is not taught in schools call back to my
14:42
previous Point workers believe unions
14:44
cost them money and don't help their
14:46
employment situation the second thing
14:48
I've noticed is that people Define
14:50
themselves by their work they are what
14:52
they do in other countries people are
14:55
more concerned about their family
14:56
relations or Hobbies but in the U.S your
14:59
job is who you are and everything else
15:01
is secondary because success is defined
15:04
by money and not happiness or
15:06
relationships people in the US are
15:08
obsessed with their careers this creates
15:11
a culture of unfulfilled and unhappy
15:13
people because they care so much about
15:16
their work but their employer doesn't
15:18
care about them I'm not saying it's
15:20
perfect around the world but there does
15:22
seem to be a hyper focus on productivity
15:24
and self-worth through work within the
15:27
United States which should be changed to
15:29
create a better working environment for
15:31
U.S workers we are about to make it into
15:33
the top three ways My Views have changed
15:35
around the us but before we make it to
15:37
number one be sure to hit the like
15:39
button because I'm afraid that YouTube
15:40
will suppress this video YouTube doesn't
15:43
always push videos that tell the truth
15:45
so uh hit that like button or share it
15:47
with a friend because they might also
15:49
like the video
15:51
moving on to number three Transportation
15:54
this one might seem strange at first but
15:56
let me explain if you live in the United
15:58
States and you want to get around you
16:00
have to own a car period
16:03
most cities do not have adequate public
16:05
transportation or even good bike Lanes
16:07
the US is car dominant and without a car
16:10
you will struggle to do basic tasks
16:12
things have changed in the last 12 years
16:14
with ride sharing apps and food delivery
16:17
apps but it is still really difficult to
16:19
get around in the United States if you
16:21
don't own a car growing up in the US
16:23
that seemed normal because it is normal
16:25
for the us but outside of the US many
16:27
countries have decent public
16:29
transportation countries like the
16:31
Netherlands Sweden and Denmark all have
16:33
designed cities to incorporate biking
16:35
and many people Bike To Work many
16:38
countries in Asia like Japan Korea and
16:40
China have subways and high-speed trains
16:42
connecting cities and areas which makes
16:44
it convenient to get around with all the
16:46
money the US government spends on the
16:48
military and subsidies it could have
16:50
redesigned many of the cities to include
16:52
bike lanes and Subway systems when
16:54
people feel safe on the roads and the
16:56
cities encourage biking people will bike
16:58
there are enough examples of cities
17:00
redesigning their downtown areas and
17:02
encouraging bike thinking to support the
17:04
investment but despite these examples
17:06
nothing seems to change bus routes
17:09
Subways trains and bike lanes are not
17:11
developed despite evidence that it
17:13
improves people's lives and commutes
17:15
if the US took a little bit of their
17:17
military spending and diverted it back
17:19
into infrastructure they could create
17:20
more jobs in better cities my opinions
17:23
on public transportation have changed a
17:25
lot after living and traveling in cities
17:27
that have good public transportation
17:29
speaking of government spending number
17:32
two on our list is the U.S government
17:34
and there are two things I want to talk
17:36
about let's first talk about the
17:38
military the U.S doesn't need to police
17:40
the World by taking on this role it has
17:42
allowed other nations to expect and rely
17:45
on U.S military support but that has
17:47
weakened both the U.S and Reliant
17:49
Nations it has weakened Reliant Nations
17:52
because they spend less money on their
17:54
own militaries and as weakened the us
17:56
because the U.S spends too much money on
17:59
the U.S military if the U.S spent 10 or
18:02
20 percent less on the military each
18:04
year and diverted it back into building
18:05
the U.S it would be a stronger nation in
18:08
terms of domestic strength the U.S would
18:10
have better health care schools
18:12
infrastructure and public services but
18:14
that will never have happen because the
18:16
US government is fractured and
18:18
dysfunctional which brings us to the
18:20
second point that I want to address the
18:22
two parties are not working to benefit
18:23
the people and because of this people
18:25
are voting more and more extreme the US
18:28
government allows lobbies to push
18:29
specific agendas that don't benefit the
18:31
people and because of this the people
18:33
vote for anyone that promises change
18:35
right or left it doesn't matter because
18:38
both sides are becoming more and more
18:40
unhinged
18:41
the two sides are no longer working
18:43
together and the lobbies are funding
18:45
special projects that only benefit the
18:47
corporations the politicians are corrupt
18:50
and always have been but now it seems
18:52
like there is less cooperation between
18:53
the two sides and this is all spurred on
18:56
by the mainstream media which brings us
18:58
to our final point but before I talk
19:00
about the mainstream media be sure to
19:02
hit that like button because YouTube is
19:04
part of the problem and they will
19:06
probably suppress this video okay let's
19:09
talk about the US media
19:11
it's all fake news I don't support Trump
19:13
or his policies but I totally understand
19:15
him and why people voted for him he
19:18
coined the term fake news but he's not
19:20
wrong you can't even really call it news
19:22
anymore and it's bad on both sides in
19:25
the past we used to have tabloids in the
19:27
supermarkets at the checkouts and they
19:30
would always have the most ridiculous
19:31
headlines like a woman gives birth to
19:34
alien and claims the father is Joe Biden
19:37
we have the exclusive interview you
19:40
won't believe what she said we all knew
19:42
it was fake but it was kind of fun to
19:43
read nowadays this is every news
19:46
headline because the news is a business
19:48
and needs to make money they will print
19:50
the most outrageous headlines to get
19:52
more views and clicks mix the mainstream
19:55
media in with social media and actual
19:57
fake news by your favorite YouTuber and
19:59
you create a nation of misinformed
20:01
people if you can't distinguish between
20:03
lies and truth then you will forever be
20:05
lost and I feel many people in the
20:07
United States right now are lost they
20:10
are fighting over lies and because they
20:12
want something to be true they are
20:13
willing to believe lies this goes for
20:16
both sides doesn't matter which opinion
20:18
you hold about a topic someone is
20:20
creating content to push you farther
20:22
down the rabbit hole as long as there's
20:24
money to be made off of content then Fox
20:26
and CNN and YouTube and Tick Tock and
20:30
Facebook and Twitter all of the social
20:32
media platforms will continue to push
20:34
this content out regardless of the truth
20:36
this is not just a US problem but
20:38
because most of the mainstream media is
20:40
us-based or U.S Centric and because most
20:43
of the popular apps are us-based it is a
20:46
major problem for the US my opinion on
20:48
news and popular apps have changed a lot
20:50
after moving abroad and I think this
20:52
problem will continue until better
20:54
regulations are implemented so there you
20:57
have it 12 ways my opinions have changed
20:59
about the US after living abroad for 12
21:01
years if you want to know where I've
21:02
been living this whole time and why
21:04

21:06
of the series click here I hope to see
21:08
you in the next video bye-bye
