每当榆树绿色的花苞垂下

When green buds hang in the elm like dust

      And sprinkle the lime like rain,

Forth I wander, forth I must,

      And drink of life again.

Forth I must by hedgerow bowers

      To look at the leaves uncurled,

And stand in the fields where cuckoo-flowers

      Are lying about the world.

 

每当榆树绿色的花苞垂下犹如微尘，
      白色的花粉像细雨之飘淋，
我就往前走，我一定要往前
   再次去饮吮生命。
我一定要在林荫道中漫步 
     去看新张开的叶茎，
还要站在杜鹃盛开的田野，
      四周的鲜花一望无垠。

* 豪斯曼的这首诗是诗集《更多的诗歌》中的第 9 首。

        这首只有一节八句的小诗，很明显，歌颂的是春天的到来。榆树绿色的花苞让 诗人感到生命的意义，他“一定要往前”，去看刚绽放的新叶，看一望无垠的杜鹃花， 去感受生命的新体验。
