Joe Mama and I decided to take a weekend trip to Boston - birth city of the American Revolution. In addition of getting a crash course of American history 101 on the Freedom Trail, we also filled our stomach with the best food Boston has to offer.

First Stop – Shabu Zen

Apparently, Shabu Shabu is all the rage right now in Boston. Shabu is a traditional Japanese restaurant, where you cook fresh veggies and thinly sliced meats in a hot broth. It is very similar to the Hot Pot restaurant in China, only the latter is much better!

Paramount Café

Cool neighborhood eatery in the posh Beacon Hill. Like many other popular restaurants in Boston, it has been around for over 70 years. This place serves up great pancakes, omelets, and an array of sandwiches. Don’t be afraid of the long lines, it moves relatively fast due to its unique seating policy.

Wagamama

I am sure there are more noteworthy places around Harvard. However, when in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a bowl of soup or a plate of dumplings at Wagamama. I consider it is the Chipotle of Asian food.

Summer Shack

natural selections

You can’t come to Boston without eating a lobster or two. While most people flock to the well established places like Legal Seafood, Joe Mama and I are on a budget diet. We opted for the more budget friendly place – Summer Shack. The place looks a lot like the seafood restaurant on the "Free Credit Report.com" commercial. However, the kitchen means serious lobster business. There are several large water tanks filled with live lobsters, a huge steamer, and open fire charcoal grill pit. Joe Mama was traumatized after witnessing how his dinner was prepared. However, it didn't stop him from eating the poor red guy on his plate.

Union Oyster House

It is said to be the oldest restaurant in the US. For this reason alone, we will need to pay our homage. As one of the stops along the Freedom Trail, the restaurant was JFK's favorite spot.

Victoria Café

End the night at the Victoria Café in Boston’s Little Italy. Order a cup of cappuccino and a piece of chocolate dipped cannoli. While sipping on the coffee and watching the night goes by, Joe Mama and I both thought "Life is good!".
