Donnie talks about doing his own stunts, living in Boston, playing a blind assassin in John Wick Chapter 4, doing a fight scene with Mike Tyson and fracturing his pinky, and we share an awesome clip from the second movie he ever shot called Mismatched Couples from 1985. I grew up watching Hong Kong martial arts stars like Donnie Yen, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Sammo Hung, Michelle Yeoh, ect. And it’s a wonder they’re still breathing today because the stuff they did back then…It was raw. And if they took a hit, they took a hit. They deserve tons of credit for doing those amazing choreos on the spot and doing those dangerous stunts. I usually prefer Hong Kong martial arts cinema as well because the camera/editing doesn’t hinder the actor’s martial arts skills and movements (and the actor’s usually doing the choreo/stunts since he/she is skilled at it), therefore less camera shake and fast cuts.
Donnie deserved a foreign film OSCAR for the 1st IP MAN movie. It was incredibly good. In my view one of the best Asian films ever made, where ACTING and story were at the same level as the incredible martial arts and stunts.
Love seeing Donnie Yen get spotlight on mainstream platforms. I'm confused...of all the great movie scenes he's had, they picked that one from his 2nd acting job.
My late eldest daughter was big fan of Donny Yen. I only know Jet Li and Jackie Chan but when my daughter introduced me to Donny Yen's movie ; am so awed and then now am a fan of him .
I became familiar with Donnie Yen from the Ip Man movie franchise and ever since then I have been a fan of every film I have seen him in. Great actor for sure :-)
The IpMan movies Donnie did are some of my favorites! His fight scene with Jet Li in “Hero” is an incredible scene! I’m looking forward to watching this latest movie!
