I lost a Shoe My Mother Made
I lost a shoe my mother made,
A newly finished, beautifully made
Cloth shoe of reddish brown.
Many a day and many a night,
In fine stiches and an artist’s cut,
She worked with her loving heart.
I lost a shoe my mother made
Some forty years ago, on a spring day.
A school boy on his way home
Saw fishes spawning in a stream.
He plunged into the current,
Forgot the new pair he was wearing.
I lost a shoe my mother made.
The running water had carried it away.
The thousand stitches that once pinched
Her hands now are pinching my heart.
Old memory, sweet and little sad…
I lost a shoe my mother made.

西江月 鞋
童子轻歌路上,
一双慈母工良。
溪沟春水捕鱼忙,
丢了新鞋魂丧。
扎底顶箍指痛,
钻心一手针伤。
千层厚底重重浆,
意在寒暑三往。
